The Ahava Project exists to share God’s love through practical support for women, men and children affected by domestic violence, partnering with local shelters and communities to restore dignity, comfort, and hope.
Domestic violence disrupts lives in ways that are often sudden and overwhelming. Families frequently leave their homes in moments of crisis, focused only on finding safety. In doing so, they may leave behind many of the simple things that once brought comfort and stability — a child’s favorite toy, warm clothing, school supplies, or everyday essentials.
Children are always the innocent ones in these situations. When their lives are suddenly turned upside down, even small acts of care can help restore a sense of security and hope.
When possible, The Ahava Project works to help replace some of these items that were left behind — whether it is a favorite toy for a child, warm clothing during a Minnesota winter, school supplies, or everyday necessities that help families begin again.
In addition to these personal items, we also help provide domestic violence shelters with other needed supplies that support daily life for the families they serve. These may include basic necessities such as diapers, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and other everyday essentials that help shelters continue caring for those in need.
Much of this support is made possible through community drives that mobilize local businesses, churches, and volunteers. These drives are often seasonal or connected to meaningful times of the year, such as school supply drives when children return to school, holiday toy drives at Christmas, or special initiatives tied to events like Valentine’s Day. Through these efforts, our community comes together to provide brand-new items that bring dignity, comfort, and encouragement to those rebuilding their lives.
We partner with local domestic violence shelters to help meet needs that often fall outside of basic shelter services. Through these partnerships, we aim to bring practical support and comfort to women, men, and children as they begin rebuilding their lives.
The Ahava Project is 100% volunteer-run, and every item distributed is brand new, reflecting our commitment to honoring the dignity of those we serve.
The word Ahava is Hebrew for love. It describes a kind of love that is not focused on ourselves, but on others. It is other-centered — or, “other-centric.” It is not defined by how we feel in someone else’s presence, but how they feel in our presence.
By mobilizing individuals, churches, and local businesses, we seek to extend that kind of love to families who need it most.
Together, we believe that even small acts of kindness can help restore hope and remind survivors that they are not alone.
